Columbus Day is a national holiday in many countries of the Americas and elsewhere, and a federal holiday in the United States, which officially celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas. Columbus went ashore at Guanahaní, an island in the Bahamas, on October 12, 1492.

National Public Lands Day

Join us for National Public Lands Day on September 27, 2025! Since 1994, this annual event on the fourth Saturday of September has been the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort. Last year, over 130 national parks hosted events with 7,600 volunteers donating an impressive 41,500 hours of service.
All national parks that charge an entrance fee will offer free admission to everyone on September 27, 2025 in celebration of National Public Lands Day.

Latest Road Construction Update – 18 September

Saturday work is starting this weekend, with work running from 7 am to 7 pm. Work will primarily be on the QEH parking lot and quarry road, so there should be minimal happening along the Green River Road other than trucks going back and forth.

The highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, referred to as HPAI H5N1, has been widely circulating in poultry and wild birds across many European and Asian countries for the last several years. In November 2021, this virus strain was detected in Newfoundland, Canada, and in January 2022, it was detected in the United States. HPAI H5N1 has affected commercial poultry operations, backyard flocks, wild birds and mammalian wildlife.
