Point to Point

Our Quickbooks Point-of-Sale program keeps us up to date every night by transferring files out and in through Intuit’s “mailbag” system. In order for that system to work, the point-of-sale computer(s) must be left on with Quickbooks POS loaded and active and someone (anyone) signed in overnight. Right now these transfers occur at approximately 3 AM. If the program is not “up” and someone signed in, the transfer fails at both ends and critical information is not exchanged and updated.

At the end of the day, whoever is closing down the park store should, from the “Receipts” screen, click on the Windows button at the upper left, click Close All Windows (if Close All Windows is grayed out, just skip over it) and click Home, stay signed in, and simply turn off the monitor… leaving the computer on and running all night. If you don’t want to leave it logged in under your own name, please log in under Parkranger (password is “pr1”).

When opening the store in the morning, turn the monitor on and see if the POS program is running. If yes, click File, then Exit (far upper left corner), then click Yes. The program will save a backup and shut down. Now, click the Quickbooks icon on the taskbar, sign in when it is booted up, and click Make a Sale… you’re ready to go for the day. [Always use File – Exit to quit the program. Data loss may occur if you close the program with the “X” in the upper right-hand corner.]

This procedure forces the Quickbooks program to update and regenerate with the proper date and uploaded data that it received during the night.
