Juneteenth-Wednesday, June 19, 2024

Juneteenth National Independence Day (June 19) is a federal legal public holiday in the U.S., commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. The date of June 19 is significant because on that day in 1865, word reached enslaved individuals in Texas that they were free. Communities have been celebrating Juneteenth since 1866.

Because Juneteenth (observed on Wednesday, June 19th in 2024) is a federal holiday, banks and many government offices will be closed that day.

We consider Juneteenth a paid holiday so if you work that day you will receive double wages for the hours worked. Bonus!! If you have any questions, please ask Ron. Yes, all visitor centers will be open as per our regular scheduled hours.
