Fossil Butte National Monument Hosts National Fossil Day Events

Kemmerer, Wyoming – On Saturday, October 14, 2017, monument staff and volunteers will host events in celebration of National Fossil Day.  We will be observing National Fossil Day from 8am-4:30 pm with all day activities including hands-on demonstrations, arts & crafts and exhibit tours of the Monument Museum, geared for children and adults.

From 11am-1pm, the public can learn how to prepare fossils at the monument. Visitors are invited to learn more about the art of fossil preparation and try it themselves. Park staff will train participants in our Fossil Preparation Lab using tools like a microscope, air scribe and air abrasive to uncover fossils which have never been seen before!

National Fossil Day is an annual celebration held to highlight the scientific and educational value of paleontology and the importance of preserving fossils for future generations. Join paleontologists, educators, and students in fossil-related events and activities across the country in parks, classrooms, and online during National Fossil Day.
